In the UK, pubs, restaurants and other hospitality venues are among the next public places to re-open as the lockdown gets eased even further. PM Johnson made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon putting an end to days of speculations. In spite of a lockdown that some may define as ‘soft’, the overall number of deaths in the UK has still reached worrying peaks, making the UK one of the countries most affected by Covid-19. Other European countries, such Italy and Spain, despite having implemented stricter lockdown measures, still saw their number of Covid-19 cases rising exponentially, therefore begging the question: what did lockdown achieve then? But, more importantly, was lockdown really necessary?
