OVERVIEW

WHAT IS THE ROOSEVELT MOVEMENT?

The Roosevelt Movement is a political movement founded by Gioele Magaldi in Italy in 2015 and is now spreading like a benign virus.

The Roosevelt Movement was founded out of the acknowledgement that the democracy western countries have lived in since the end of the second world war is now under threat.

Across the globe, different powers are contributing to the shrinking of human rights and to the reduction of welfare policies. The 21st century is living an worldwide polarisation of society and the establishment of a new, few, financial aristocrats who seem to be ruling the world- beyond national borders and governments.

WHAT IS THE POLITICAL VIEW OF THE ROOSEVELT MOVEMENT?

The Roosevelt Movement was named after Eleanor Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
We believe in liberal world with a strong attention toward social issues and do believe that the distinction between left and right wing parties is outdated and no more relevant.

Left and right have been contaminated by interests other than those of the people political parties should represent. Furthermore, even though J.M.Keynes in 1936 with his General Theory, F.D. Roosevelt, E. Roosevelt,  G. Marshall (Marshal plan), W. Beveridge and many others have proved the world that a liberal, free and yet social and fair society can be achieved, in today’s politics the neo-liberistic model, looking after the interests of big lobbies and corporations, seems to be popular even amongst those who suffer the most from the neo-liberist politics. Actually, the paradox is in that those who suffer the most – driven by growing needs-  are those demanding for cuts on welfare and human rights.

We need to stop all of this. We need to stop the manipulation of people’s conscience and votes.

We do not believe in the political tradition where parties claim, on one side, to be fighting for the social good, and on the other side, for freedom and personal liberties.

We believe that a fair society cannot exist without freedom and that freedom cannot exist anywhere else but in a fair society for all.

In the ‘long wake’ of the true socio-liberal tradition starting with J. Rawls and ending with J.F.Kennedy and Martin Luther King, we want to rebuild a political option, capable of truly fighting the lobbies that are driving an evident anti-democratic involution, of helping private investments grow and of creating a fairer society for all.

DO WE OPERATE LIKE ANY OTHER POLITICAL PARTY?

No, we don’t. We don’t chase votes. However, in order to bring democratic changes to society, a direct involvement in politics is necessary. At each turn of elections we support parties or, more often, singular candidates we trust and believe in.

We are not interested in your vote. We are interested in creating a better society for all.
