Giovanni Smaldone will be one of the panellists at “A Rooseveltian New Deal for Italy and Europe”, the event promoted by the Roosevelt Movement UK and which will take place in London on 30th March 2019.
Smaldone manages the financial side of large international urban projects whose purpose is the regeneration of neighbourhoods and areas in the name of sustainability, thanks to the strategic alliance between public and private. His main skills are project, development and construction management, as well as project financing: the know-how on project feasibility, real estate assessment, management and motivation of work teams, planning and monitoring of project development.
Smaldone grew up in London, between the West Hampstead Housing Association and Ove Arup Ltd, the department of Strategic City Advice, where he developed skills whereby the design and commercial aspects are applied to urban and territorial development, in the context of urban spaces and real estate products. Whilst in Italy, he worked in Rome in the field of strategic advisory, both on behalf of public bodies and private individuals, at Europrogetti & Finanza, a joint-stock company controlled by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and Mediocredito Centrale. Smaldone also worked as a manager at Condotte Immobiliare SpA and Gruppo Ferfina, one of Italy’s largest general contractors.
In 2007, in Milan, Smaldone led the projects of Lend Lease, one of the major international players in the urban development sector, directly following various urban regeneration operations: Milan Santa Giulia, Sesto San Giovanni and Adige City (Verona). In 2010, he founded Antirion Sgr, an asset management company specialised in the creation and management of real estate investment funds.
Since 2013, Smaldone is partner and the Italian Chairman of Nai Global, an international company specialised in real estate advisory. Its objective: to create investment vehicles born of public-private partnerships to enhance the public real estate assets and regenerate spaces, putting the funds managed by Cdpi Sgr, Invimit Sgr and the EU’s structural funds into a system. From 2016, Smaldone is also senior advisor of Avalon SpA, a company specialised in real estate services for institutional and non-institutional investors.
With the event “A Rooseveltian New Deal for Italy and Europe”, the Roosevelt Movement is gearing up to send a message to all European people: defend democratic institutions from the economic recipes of neo-liberalism, explaining to citizens that it is necessary that the economy returns to serve again the interests of the community. The economic paradigms proposed by the neo-liberal and neo-aristocratic media regime are seriously flawed; today, we need a “capitalism with a human guise”, where the freedom of business and investment is accompanied by policies of employment and sustainable development, and, above all, we need capable and courageous economists able to provide politics with the tools necessary to put the economy back at people’s service. This is the Roosevelt Movement’s mission, which on 30th March will bring together in London authoritative international figures within the fields of politics and economy to discuss the subject in a free and courageous way.
See you all on Saturday 30th March (2.30pm to 8pm) at the Fyvie Hall at the University of Westminster, Regent Campus!
